u know what the problem with hollywood is? they make shit... unbleievable, unremarkable shit... now I'm not some grungy wannabe film maker searching for exastantialism through a haze of bong smoke or something. no its easy to pick apart bad acting... near sighted directing, and a purely moronic stringing together of words many studios term as prose... no I'm talking about the lack of realism... a non prevasive element in todays modern american cinimatic vision... take dog day aftern noon for example... arguably pachinos best work short of scarface and god father part one of course... masterpiece of directing... easily laments best... the cinimatography.. the acting... the screen play... all top notch... but, they didn't push the envolope... now what if in dog day sonny really wanted to get away with it... now this is the tricky part... what if he started killing hostages right away... no mercy no quarter... meet our demands or the pretty little blonde in the bellbottoms gets it in the back of the gead... bam! splat! what still no bus... come on... how many innocent victims splattered against a window would it take for the city to reverse its policy on hostage situations.. and this is 1976 theres no cnn, theres no cnbc... THERES NO INTERNET... now fast forward to today... how quickly would the modern media get a hold of this... it would be the biggest story from boston to buddapest... ten hostages die... twenty... thirty... relentless... bam! bam! one after another... all caught in high def, computer enhanced, color corrected... you can practically taste the brain matter... all for what a bus, a plane, a couple million dollars thats federally insured... i don't think so... just a though... didn't think so... within the relms of conventional cinima...
